PSHE - SRE
Intent.
We believe that PSHE and SRE helps to develop our children into healthy, understanding and contributing members of our community. We aim to help children to learn the skills needed to develop their social and emotional well-being and have the language to talk about their emotions and opinions openly with others. We aim to provide children with the knowledge to deal with moral, cultural and social issues that they may face growing up and show respect to all others. PSHE and SRE is an important part of school assemblies and collective worship where children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural curiosity if stimulated, challenged and nurtured.
Implementation.
At Crownfield PSHE & SRE is covered in many ways and is integrated through all subjects. PSHE lessons are taught once a half term using the Character Education Rising Stars scheme. We also promote our Crownfield core values each half term and this is implemented in our everyday teaching. Throughout the week, children are also given opportunities to learn about social skills and emotional development through circle times, stories, class discussions and assemblies. The curriculum reflects the needs of our pupils and is tailored to suit specific needs.
The SRE curriculum is split into 3 parts: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the wider world. Some parts of the SRE curriculum are taught as part of the ICT and Science curriculum. Teachers will dedicate two half an hour sessions a half to term to discussing and teaching the SRE curriculum using the PSHE Association guidance.
Impact.
Crownfield will be a safe and understanding place for children to talk openly about their feelings and emotions. We strive to help mould children into understanding, moral and contributing members of society.
We monitor this through:
Learning walks.
Pupil’s voice and questioning.
Evidence in topic books.
Class reflection books.
